ABSTRACT

Literature has emphasized on food environments centrality in food choices and nutritional status. Objective: identify social perceptions of fathers, mothers and guardians, professionals from educational establishments, municipal officials, and stallholders belonging to the southern area of Santiago de Chile, regarding limitations of healthy diet implementation on school environments. Method: six focus groups were carried out grouping 50 key actors linked to educational establishments using a non-probabilistic sample. A content analysis was applied through thematic coding technique seeking to reveal emerging semantic universes. Results: Nine barriers, or semantics, were identified characterizing limitations to healthy eating habits in school environments: family, school kiosks, leaving school establishments, taste, socioeconomic determinants, public policy, lack of knowledge, publicity, and availability of products without seals. Conclusions: limitations associated with domestic food environment have a significantly high representation (47,9%) and contain an individualized responsibility feature. This explanatory culture is opposed to scientific and academic evidence regarding the functioning of eating behavior, and the centrality of food environments facilitating or hindering healthy food consumption.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Objective To comprehend the challenges and emotions within the caregiving process from the perspective of those who care for older adults in situations of frailty within their own homes. Method A qualitative research approach rooted in the theoretical and methodological framework of Interpretative and Medical Anthropology was employed. Nine female caregivers and one male caregiver were interviewed within the homes of the elderly individuals they were caring for. Emic analysis was guided by the model of Signs, Meanings, and Actions. Results Challenges manifest in the absence of caregiver training, constraints related to hygiene routines, the absence of compliance with labor rights, lack of accessibility and material resources, family relationships, and the interpretation of the actions of the care recipients as stubbornness. Emotions described by the interviewees include affection, satisfaction, fatigue, stress, burden, and fear of worsening and making mistakes. Conclusion Caregivers revealed a deep and complex moral, ethical, and emotional involvement in their caregiving roles. They highlight a scenario where it is essential to recognize and acknowledge the work involved in caring for older adults in situations of frailty and to implement caregiving policies with community and cross-sector support actions.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Purpose to investigate the communicative, social, and emotional impacts generated by adopting protective measures against COVID-19 and associate them with the degree of hearing loss and the time of use of hearing aids. Methods cross-sectional quantitative study, with 72 individuals, divided into adults and older adults, with bilateral hearing loss up to moderately severe degree, users of hearing aids fitted before the pandemic in a public hearing health program who had maintained effective use of the devices. The participants were invited to participate in the study while waiting for an appointment and signed the consent form. After that, medical records were accessed to collect information about audiological profiles and the fitting/use of hearing aids. Afterward, a protocol with objective questions was orally applied in a silent room. Data were tabulated and subjected to Equality of Two Proportions and Chi-Square statistical tests. Results in both groups, a significant number of users had communication impacted by the use of masks and by social distancing, with difficulty with digital technologies (cell phones/computers) predominating among adults, while older adults more commonly experienced communicative impairments during video calls. The communicative impediment existed regardless of the audiological profile and device use time. When asked if they stopped communicating and if the measures affected their social life, the sample was divided between "yes/sometimes" and "no". As for the emotional impact of protective measures, there was a greater impact among adults. Conclusion protective measures affected the communication of hearing aids users but did not discourage communicative exchanges and social interactions for approximately half of the sample, with the emotional impact being more evident in adults. Such difficulties were not related to the audiological profile and daily use of the devices.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the article is to identify individual factors affecting and the factors of the institutions associated with the occurrence of corrupt conduct. Corruption has been studied in several disciplines; its causes vary from structural issues in the political and economic spheres to decline of individual morality and cultural differences (Julián & Bonavía, 2017). According to Bautista (2015), there have been attempts to fight corruption from outside the individual level. External controls, audits and monitoring systems have been created to this end. However, few initiatives aim to rectify the issue at the individual level of education, perceptions, beliefs and values. When ethical values are promoted, they enhance integrity and dignity in individual behavior, generating honest behavior, oriented toward fulfillment of duty. Conversely, when values are weakened or absent, anti-values and corrupt practices appear immediately. This is a qualitative study, and information was collected through interviews. It adopted a systematic design, characterized by open, axial, and selective coding. Eleven interviews were conducted with legal professionals specializing in the investigation of financial crimes, who have identified the factors involved in corruption and fraud. The information was analyzed using the ATLAS TI 6.5 software. The results showed that lack of control was the most important factor that led to corruption in entities, and in second place is the power of senior executives. On the other hand, ambition, greed, and acceptance of corrupt conduct were the most common factors in the individual sphere. Identifying the factors associated with corruption is relevant for proposing preventive measures.

ABSTRACT

Population aging is one of the most latent problems in the current Cuban reality. According to ONEI figures, the population over 60 years of age amounts to more than two million people. This is a phenomenon present throughout the life cycle from the very process of conception until death; which, despite being a natural phenomenon known to all, has been difficult for many to accept as an innate reality to all beings. Given the great complexity of the changes that occur during it, it is not surprising that there are more than 300 theories in order to explain the where, how and why of these changes. In this article, the phenomenon of population aging in Cuba is doctrinally characterized as an irreversible, unique, individual, universal process of change that involves all dimensions of the human being, and slows down the processes of the body; Supporting its analysis on its theoretical foundations, as well as on the totalizing vision, which allows it to be assumed as a dialectical totality, for this reason it is assumed as an objective to Systematize a theoretical and methodological conception that supports the polysemic nature of the aging process of the population. The study is being carried out at the present time, as part of an investigation process that is being undertaken in the Provincial Court of Havana.

ABSTRACT

The first aim of this study was to adapt the mdmq to Argentinian Spanish and to collect evidence of its va-lidity and reliability; the second was to determine if time perspectives were adequate predictors of decision-making styles. A first sample of 536 participants served in the validation process; a second sample of 209 individuals who completed the mdmq and the Brief Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ztpi) was used to conduct descriptive-correlational and regression analyses. Confirmatory factor analysis corroborated a fourfactor model with adequate internal consistency for each subscale. Regression analyses showed that future time perspective positively predicted the display of higher vigilant coping patterns adaptive and ratio-nal decision-making style. Meanwhile, less future- time-oriented people were more likely to engage in defensive avoidance mechanisms to reach a decision. Past-negative and present-fatalistic time perspectives were positive predictors of non-vigilant decision-making style. It indicates that individuals with an aversive vision over their past experiences and present situation are more likely to engage in emotionally based and avoidant decision-making patterns. These findings support the reliability and construct-related validity of the mdmq for assessing decision-making styles among Argentinian individuals and set a step for con-ducting more in-depth research in the field of decision-making and time perspective.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the consistency of individual iodine nutrition levels by serum iodine, plasma iodine and whole blood iodine, and to provide reference for iodine-related epidemiological investigation. Methods:Healthy adults aged 18 - 59 years were recruited from the Research Center of Environment and Health in Water Source Area of South-to-North Water Diversion of Hubei University of Medicine. Whole blood sample was collected and serum and plasma were separated. The content of iodine in serum, plasma and whole blood was determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and the linear relationship, precision and accuracy of the standard curve of the detection method were evaluated. The difference of three kinds of blood iodine levels was analyzed by variance analysis of compatibility group design, and Passing-Bablok regression and Bland-Altman plot were used to evaluate the consistency between serum iodine and plasma iodine. Results:The linear range of iodine in serum, plasma and whole blood was 0.0 - 25.0 μg/L, and the correlation coefficients ( R2) were all > 0.999. The relative standard deviation of 8 mixed blood samples ranged from 1.9% to 4.3% ( n = 6), and the determination results of blood iodine certified standard substances were all within the reference range. The recovery rate of the added standard ranged from 99% to 106%. The iodine levels in serum, plasma and whole blood of 50 volunteers were (57.31 ± 8.06), (57.49 ± 8.50) and (33.89 ± 5.40) μg/L, respectively, and there was no statistically significant difference between serum iodine and plasma iodine ( P = 0.904). The results of Passing-Bablok regression showed that there was no statistically significant difference in bias between serum iodine and plasma iodine ( P = 0.538). The Bland-Altman plot indicated that the difference between serum iodine and plasma iodine was within the consistency limit. Conclusion:The results of plasma iodine and serum iodine are in good agreement, and plasma iodine can be used as an evaluation index of individual iodine nutrition level. But there is no consistency between whole blood iodine and serum iodine.

ABSTRACT

At present, Chinese residents have three iodine nutritional states: iodine deficiency, iodine appropriate and iodine excess. Appropriate iodine nutrition is crucial to the growth, development, and metabolic regulation of the body. Accurate assessment of individual iodine nutrition level is helpful to accurately understand the iodine status of the body and prevent iodine deficiency or excess. Previous indexes for assessing iodine nutrition include urinary iodine, thyroid stimulating hormone, goiter rate and so on, but these indexes have different degrees of shortcomings in individual iodine nutrition evaluation. This paper reviews the commonly used individual iodine nutrition evaluation indexes, and discusses the possibility of combined application of multiple indexes.

ABSTRACT

@#Abstract: Objective To retrospectively analyze the individual dose monitoring of radiation workers in Chongqing City from 2016 to 2020, so as to provide scientific reference for occupational health monitoring and radiation protection. Methods Radiation workers who performed individual dose monitoring in Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2016 to 2020 were selected as the research objects, and the monitoring data were collected and analyzed. Results A total of 40 926 individuals were included in this study, with a total of 135 622 person-years. The average annual individual effective dose of radiation workers over the five-year period was 0.56 mSv. NR1 and NR5, the ratio of the number of works receiving annual individual does exceeding 1 and 5 mSv to the to the total monitor workers were 13.019% and 0.335%. The annual effective dose per capita in Chongqing City showed a trend of first decreasing, then increasing and then decreasing again over the study period, with significant differences between different years (F=971.754, P<0.001). Although there were some differences in the variation trend of annual effective dose among different occupational categories, the overall trend was decreasing year by year. The average annual effective dose of nuclear medicine and interventional radiology was relatively high, and the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The average annual effective dose of industrial flaw detection and accelerator operator in industrial application was relatively higher, and the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the per capita effective doses of different occupational categories of medical application in different years (F=8.892-682.852, P<0.001). Among them, the per capita annual effective doses of five occupational categories of medical application were the highest in 2016, and the per capita annual effective doses of interventional radiology were the highest in 2018 and 2019. Conclusions The per capita annual effective dose of radiation staff in Chongqing has decreased year by year from 2016 to 2020, and remained at a relatively low level that meets national standards. The monitoring results suggest that the radiation staff of nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, industrial non-destructive testing and accelerator operator should give special attention to protect their occupational health and safety.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate the development of individual therapy of antimicrobial agents in pediatric patients. METHODS A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the individual therapy of antimicrobial agents in 30 children’s hospitals and pediatric departments of general hospitals in China. The survey data was analyzed statistically by Microsoft Excel 2007 and SPSS 26.0 software. RESULTS In this survey, 75 questionnaires were collected, and 53 of them were valid with an effective rate of 70.7%. The results showed that 86.7% (26/30) of the hospitals carried out individual therapy of antimicrobial agents in different forms. Clinical needs primarily contributed to the individual therapy in these hospitals, while the insufficient personnel and equipment were the biggest obstacles for individual therapy. The proportions of hospitals, who implemented evidence- based pharmacy, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) and antimicrobial-related genetic tests were 70.0%, 80.0%, 30.0% and 33.3%, respectively. Various detection methods of TDM were carried out in various hospitals, and the antimicrobial agents which needed TDM focused on vancomycin and voriconazole. Moreover, nearly half of pharmacists did not know much about MIPD. CONCLUSIONS At present, TDM is the main way to develop individual therapy of antimicrobial agents in various hospitals, but its monitoring coverage and testing standards need to be improved. MIPD and antimicrobial-related gene tests still need to be further promoted in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the influencing factors and population attributable risk percent (PAR%) of low back pain in automobile assemblers. Methods: A total of 634 assemblers from 11 automobile manufacturers in Shiyan City, Hubei Province were chosen as research subjects using judgment sampling method. The prevalence of low back pain in the past one year was investigated using Musculoskeletal Disorders Questionnaire. PAR% was used to analyze the contribution of influencing factors to low back pain. Results: The annual prevalence of low back pain was 68.8%. The results of multivariate logistics regression showed that length of service>15 years, high school or secondary college education or above, standing most of the time, sitting most of the time, the proportion of cumulative time of poor posture in work shift time ≥1/8, and bending for insufficient height of working space were the risk factors for low back pain (all P<0.05). The PAR% of the proportion of cumulative time of poor posture in work shift time ≥1/8 was 43.0%, 37.8% for standing most of the time, and 12.8% for bending for insufficient height of working space. Conclusion: The annual prevalence of low back pain was higher in automobile assemblers. The influencing factors included individual factors and occupational factors. The proportion of cumulative time of poor posture in work shift time ≥1/8, standing most of the time and bending for insufficient height of working space should be taken as the priority intervention factors to reduce the prevalence of low back pain among assemblers in this enterprise.
